Welcome To Emily and Jon's Travel Page

We are a young couple from Brookings, South Dakota who love to travel and experience the world. We have studied abroad and backbacked a considerable amount in various parts of the world. Please look through our site and enjoy some of our travels with us.

We usually update our site with travel columns that we've written for our local papers back home, notes from our travels, photos and future plans. Please feel free to contact us with comments or questions about our travels or areas we have visited.

Future Travel Plans

We will be leaving for our honeymoon mid-November. We'll be going to the Czech Republic and to the Netherlands.

Recent Travels

We were able to take a several day travel to Denver, CO for our JET interviews. Making a round about trip, we also visited the Rockie Mountains, the Coors Brewery, Carhenge, Scottsbluff National Park and some friends along the way.

We visited Carhenge in Alliance, Nebraska on our way home from Colorado

Us by a canal in Amsterdam

Here we are by a canal in Amsterdam, just after visiting the Anne Frank House.

Past Travels

We have been in Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, the Slovak Republic, Poland, Belgium and Holland. Look for lots of new photos after our return! You can check our updates page for a quick description of things we have seen and done.

Our trips in Sweden were as follows.

We took a day trip to Glasriket, or "The Kingdom of Crystal" and also to Kalmar. Our roommate Harry arranged to get a car from a friend who sells cars, and drove us too. Our column Småland in a day is about that trip.

We spent two days in Göteborg (read about it in our Gothenburg column) before taking the ferry to England to leave the majority of our luggage at Rob and Rosie's house. We flew to Italy to begin our summer traveling in Rome.

We visited Gränna with Jon's host family, which is only a short distance from Jönköping. Gränna is famous for it's polkagris candy, which is red and white striped pepermint candy. We also went to Visingsö, which is a very small island in Lake Vättern. Read about this day trip to Gränna in our column.

One major trip was spending six days in Denmark. We spent two days in Århus and were in Copenhagen the rest of the time. Both cities were very beatiful, moreso when the weather cooperated with us though. As usual we took many photos and had a great time.

We visited the capital city, Stockholm, for a long weekend. We visited many sites and museums on our trip. Stockholm is a unique city and is called "the Venice of the North" since it is built on 14 islands and is surrounded by water, making for some great photo opportunities.

On our trip to Kiruna, which is in the Arctic Circle and the northmost part of Sweden, we visited the Ice Hotel, which is the world's only only hotel built entirely out of ice and snow. We traveled 1,770 feet down in the deepest mine in the world, and also went dogsledding! We took some really cool photos there.

We left on our journey December 28th from Sioux Falls, SD. We landed in London the next morning. The following two weeks were spent traveling around England with our good friends Rosie and Rob. Our travels included London, Stonehenge, Sheffield, York, Manchester and Harrogate.

We took an overnight ferry from Newcastle, England, to Göteborg, Sweden, and then a train to Jönköping.

We enjoyed our semester at Jönköping University and miss all of our international friends.

Soon to come...

These Sweden pages will be archived. We will recreate the whole site. Watch for a whole new look! Photos and columns will still be available.

Travel Columns

The last of our columns are posted. All of them weren't published in newspapers, but they are in a booklet complied of our columns and photos.

We've added a Halloween page, with photos of our costumes and pumpkins we carved... check it out!

Here's also a small teaser of some of the photos soon to come....

Thanks for signing the guest book! We really like hearing from everyone and seeing who's been reading our columns in the paper.

Projects we've done at school in Sweden...

We've also uploaded our oral Swedish presentations from our Swedish II classes. Jon's presentation is on South Dakota and Emily's presentation is on Copenhagen. We dare you to try and translate everything! If you really want to learn some Swedish, here's a great online dictionary.

Here are two Photoshop projects Emily did.
