Here are some photos from our long weekend in Stockholm. It is a very beautiful city with a lot of culture and history.

Riddarholmen

Stockholm is made up of 14 islands that are connected by 50 bridges.
This is Riddarholmen as seen from city hall.

Kaknäs TV Tower

 

 

We had dinner atop the Kaknästornet TV Tower. We had a wonderful view of the lights of Stockholm from our dinner table.

Gustav af Klint

We stayed in the Gustav af Klint. It is a 100+ year old ship that is now a hostel and pub.

Mårten Trotzigs Grånd

 

 

 

Emily is standing in Stockholm's narrowest street, Mårten Trotzigs Grånd. Two people can just squeeze through.

Colorful Gamla Stan

Gamla Stan (the Old City) is one of the oldest areas of Stockholm.
Some of the buildings date back 400-500 years.

Tyska Kykran

 

 

Gamla Stan is home to several cathedral including Tyska Kyrkan (the German Church).

Kungliga Slottet

Kungliga Slottet (the Royal Palace) is in Gamla Stan.
It has 608 rooms and is the largest royal palace in the world.

Changing of the guard

We were lucky to catch the changing of the guard at Kungliga Slottet.

Storkyrkan

 

Storkyrkan and the Royal Palace as seen from across the harbor.

St. George & the Dragon

Storkyrkan is known for this sculpture St. George and the Dragon. It was sculpted in 1490.

Emily and Gamla Stan

 

Emily is taking a break outside Stadhuset. There is a nice view of Riddarholmen from across the bay.

Evert Taube

 

Here Evert Taube, a famous poet and song writer in Sweden, sings his words with Stadhuset (City Hall) in the background.

Riddarholmen Kyrkan

 

 

 

Riddarholmen Kyrkan is where all of the kings of the past are buried.

This is a sculpture in the square of the Riddarholmen Kyrkan.

Emily at Solna Centrum

Emily is in the Solna Centrum subway station.
The Tunnelbana in Stockholm is considered the world's longest art gallery.

Tensta

In the Tensta terminal there is a hippy theme.
Many residents of Stockholm argue over which station has the best art.

T-Centralen

These builders are really working each other over in the T-Centralen station.

Västra Skogen

 

 

It's a winterwonderland at the Västra Skogen station, with penguins, walruses and icebergs.

Kundsträdgården

 

These keys on the way down an escalator give a new idea of a "grand" piano in the Kundsträdgården station.

Kundsträdgården's exhibits surround you everywhere you go.

With the ancient ruins of Rome and its fountains and pillars, it is easy to see why many people of Stockholm argue that Kundsträdgården has the best art of the underground.

It was our favorite.

Glasobelisken  DayGlasobelisken  Night

 

 

This is Glasobelisken, or the Glass Obelisk. It is in Sergels Torg
(Sergel's Square) which is in the heart of the city where most of
the excitement is. In the evening it glows a white light.

Jon and a crocodile in the aquarium at Skansen. The crocodile was just content to sit there - he didn't move the whole time we were there.

Stockholm at sunset

We were able to catch a beautiful sunset and an outline of Gamla Stan from a ferry in Saltsjön.
