Storkyrkan and the Royal Palace as seen from across the harbor.
Here are some photos
from our long weekend in Stockholm. It is a very beautiful city with a
lot of culture and history. |
|
Stockholm is made up of 14 islands that are connected
by 50 bridges. |
We had dinner atop the Kaknästornet TV Tower. We had a wonderful view of the lights of Stockholm from our dinner table. |
We stayed in the Gustav af Klint. It is a 100+ year old ship that is now a hostel and pub. |
A porthole's view, from our room in the hostel. |
Emily is standing in Stockholm's narrowest street, Mårten Trotzigs Grånd. Two people can just squeeze through. |
Gamla Stan (the Old City) is one of the oldest areas of
Stockholm. |
Gamla Stan is home to several cathedral including Tyska Kyrkan (the German Church). |
Kungliga Slottet (the Royal Palace) is in Gamla Stan.
|
We were lucky to catch the changing of the guard at Kungliga Slottet. |
Statue of Gustav III outside Kungliga Slottetet. |
Storkyrkan and the Royal Palace as seen from across the harbor. |
Storkyrkan is known for this sculpture St. George and the Dragon. It was sculpted in 1490. |
Emily is taking a break outside Stadhuset. There is a nice view of Riddarholmen from across the bay. |
Here Evert Taube, a famous poet and song writer in Sweden, sings his words with Stadhuset (City Hall) in the background. |
Riddarholmen Kyrkan is where all of the kings of the past are buried. |
This is a sculpture in the square of the Riddarholmen Kyrkan. |
Emily is in the Solna Centrum subway station. |
In the Tensta terminal there is a hippy theme. |
These builders are really working each other over in the T-Centralen station. |
It's a winterwonderland at the Västra Skogen station, with penguins, walruses and icebergs. |
These keys on the way down an escalator give a new idea of a "grand" piano in the Kundsträdgården station. |
Kundsträdgården's exhibits surround you everywhere you go. |
With the ancient ruins of Rome and its fountains and pillars, it is easy to see why many people of Stockholm argue that Kundsträdgården has the best art of the underground. It was our favorite. |
|
This is Glasobelisken, or the Glass Obelisk.
It is in Sergels Torg
|

A statue in the square near Slussen. |
The ferry to the island of Djugården. |
We were able to catch a beautiful sunset and an outline of Gamla Stan from a ferry in Saltsjön. |
