Here are some photos from our visit to Copenhagen. The weather was poor one day, but otherwise we had a great time.

Nyhavn

We had dinner along the pier in Nyhavn.
The houses along the harbor are very traditional for Copenhagen.

Mt. Rushmore in Copenhagen

Even in Denmark we saw things that, for some odd reason, reminded us of home.

Rådhuset

Rådhus, or City Hall, is home to the World Clock.

Gammel Torv

Many people take a break to relax from a hard day of shopping
at the fountains all around Copenhagen.

Street Performer

Copenhagen has a very artistic feel to it.
This is a street performer we watched
at a square in a shopping area.
He moved very slowly and smoothly,
so much that we thought he was a machine at first.

Spider Sculpture

This mama spider sculpture was sponsored by Louisiana,
a modern art museum near Copenhagen.
If you look close you can see eggs in the spider's stomach.

Amalienborg SlotAmlienborg Guard

The courtyard of Amalienborg Slot
is the Copenhagen home of the Royal Family of Denmark.
Everyday at noon there is a changing of the guards.
It was raining all day when we were there so we missed it.

Daffodil in bloom

Spring time is finally in full bloom.

To the left of this fountain in Amaliehaven, you can see Frederikskirken.
The church has the 3rd largest domed roof in Europe.

Amliehaven from the canal

Amaliehaven from the canal tour we took.

Emily at Amliehaven

While in Copenhagen we visited many of the city's parks.
Amaliehaven, along the harbor was one of the smaller,
but very beautiful areas we went to.

Little Mermaid Hunt
Den lilla Havfrue

Jon is having trouble finding Copenhagen's most famous sculpture, Den lille Havfrue.
The little mermaid was sculpted in honor of Danish author
Hans Christian Andersen's story about The Little Mermaid
who fell in love with a man and died in her attempt to be with him.

Michelangelo's David

A bronze replica of Michelangelo's David
outside of the city's art museum near the port.

Det Kongelige Bibiotek

Det Kongelige Bibiotek, part of the Royal Library,
had a beautiful fountain and garden. In the fountain there was a family of ducks
with about ten little duckies and a castle-like house.

Emily

Of course we had to sample a few of the local sweets.
The strawberry and sweet cream cake was really good.

Rosenborg SlotRosenborg Slot

Rosenborg Slot is the home of the crown jewels of Denmark.
We didn't actually take a tour of the castle but we spent over an hour
walking around the beautiful Livgardens Kaserne that are on the grounds of the castle.

us at Kastellet

We happened to meet one of the German students that is studying in Jönköping with us while walking around Copenhagen so we had her snap a photo for us.

Emily and snake

Emily loves snakes so much
that she just can't sssssstay away
when we sssssssssee one.

Skt. Albans Kirke

Skt. Ansgars Kirke, not far from the Little Mermaid,
is located on the moat of the star-shaped Kastellet.
Kastellet, or Citadel, is a historic defense fortification for the Danish military.

Duckbilled Jon

We took a break at a fountain in
Frederiksberg Have
on our last day in Copenhagen.

Vor Frelsers Kirke

Construction of Vor Frelsers Kirke, or the Church of Our Savior,
began in 1696 under the rule of King Christian V.

The copper and gold spire towers 300 feet
above the busy harbor area of Copenhagen called Christianshavn.
A total of 400 steps, 150 twisting around the outside,
provide an awesome view of the city.

Copenhagen from the sky

View of Copenhagen from atop the Vor Frelsers Kirke.
